Setback

Keith had a setback today. They had to insert another breathing tube through his trachea because he stopped breathing on his own, and they feared the breathing tube was too irritating and they want him to relax. He also stopped responding like he was responding before, which they aren't too worried about, but it is unexpected and something they have to look into. We'll post as soon as there's a change!

  1. Head injuries are just hard to predict but from your reports it appears Keith is getting excellent care and attention. We keep you in our prayers always and hang in there things will start to get better but it takes time. Bob and Joyce Long (the old folks)

  2. Sorry but needed to add something to my last comment. A trach is not a bad thing. Keith has some injuries that reduce his ability to deep breath and cough. A trach allows the use of a vent when needed but can be plugged when trying to wean the person off the vent. If the person again has breathing difficulties all that has to be done is to unplug the trach and put the vent back on. That way that awful tube is out of the picture. Keith probably receives breathing treatments to get his lungs in good working order. The trach again is great because what he cannot get out it can be suctioned out. This is a long process to get back to healthy but he will. He just has to heal from the trauma he suffered. When he no longer needs the trach the area closes when the trach is removed. Not a painful procedure.

  4. Keith, I just found this on FB. I can't think about college without thinking about you! I am so happy that you have a wonderful family there with you through this. Your faith and happiness in life will help you recuperate. When you are able, give your amazing wife a hug and thank you from me for taking such good care of you! It will seem like a long process, but every moment of every day will get you closer to healing, so just take it moment by moment! I will keep you in my prayers. God will protect you and your family. And thank you to your family for keeping us updated.
